Hello fellow Quantum Leap fans. This is my first post to your message board. Let me just say first that this is a terrific site full of great things for anyone interested in the show. Anyway, I wanted to ask if anyone has heard anything recently about the "in the works" telefilm. The release of the DVD's has not only brought back the excitement of watching one of my all time favorite shows for myself, but it has also afforded me the chance to share it with my kids who weren't alive back when Sam and Al were bungling through time originally. Having a new QL to follow with them would be just as great.

hi there. i just joined myself, yesterday. i like your name, glitter rock is a great episode. hehe, funny you should mention the origonal airing of the show, becasue acually when i first got into it, i was watching the dvds all the time in my room and i was surpised to find out that my mom knew what it was, because while it may be from her time, she usually never knows about the shows i watch, i usually have to explain stuff. hehe. hope to talk to you more here, when they get the problems with this site fixed.<img border=0 src="http://www.knightshow.com/smilies/wavey.gif" />

Well, the new series is supposed to star Sam's daughter, Sammy Jo Fuller, leaping through time trying to find Sam, with Al as her Observer. Scott would likely only appear in guest appearances from time to time. Don is still producing the movie/spin-off, but Trey Callaway is the one who was commissioned to write the initial script and is the co-producer. If Donald Bellisario had no input on this project, we would all have a lot of doubts for this new series, but as long as he's still involved, many of us are willing to give it a chance.

I don't really have the time to go into more detail right now, because it's late and I'm kind of tired, but someone else might be able to post some more information later on.

what? sam only as a guest star now and then! are you kidding, me! i thought it would have been like showing them both on their leaping jurneys. man, that kinda sux.

I gotta say this:
Trey Callaway: The next Rick Berman! :lol

SamBeckettfann, if you want to "see" more of Sam and Al in their journey through time and correcting wrongs check out the middle link at the top of this page. I'm looking forward to having 2 QL series going on simultaneously, one televised and the other developed for the internet since 1999. :) A Quantum Leap continuation that evolved into its own series that never lost it's classic QL spirit.

I did read the Callaway interview some time ago. I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything recently about the project.
I think one of the key reasons QL was so appealing was the chemistry that developed between Scott and Dean as Sam and Al. While it would seem that would be missing in large part from the new story based on what has been said, I don't think it will greatly diminsh the potential for it to be good. With members of the original cast and crew working on the new project, maybe they can come up with some new magic to keep us as entertained as we were before.
I also believe the concept of continuity will be a key to making the show successful if it ever gets past the developmental stages and into our living rooms. Weaving the threads of the original series into the new one will appeal to us old-time QL fans. At the same time, the show can be given enough of a freshening up to attract some new fans, particularly amongst the younger viewers. It will certainly be better then wiping the slate clean and beginning a QL none of us would recognize. So I say bring on Sammy Jo and Al, with a dash of Sam mixed in, and let's hope things get moving again soon on production! <img border=0 src="http://www.knightshow.com/smilies/cheers.gif" />

Unfortunately, there's already a problem with that. Trey says in his interview that Sam briefly interacts with a 12-year-old Sammy Jo in 1992. If you're familiar with the "Trilogy" episodes, Sammy Jo's birthday was in March of 1966, which would make her 12 in 1978. :rolleyes

EDIT: Meant to say Sammy Jo was born in March of 1967 as she was conceived in June of '66.

Re: > Re: A Bold Leap Forward

I just can't get into it if both Sam and Al are not in it...If Calloway is the next Berman, the show is doomed. Berman killed Star Trek. In a way, I'm kinda against a new series without Scott fulltime...just seems like a bad idea that would take a great show I once watched and cheapen it...

Re: > Re: A Bold Leap Forward

To tell you the truth, I don't really care much about this project anymore. Too many delays. If everyone's heart isn't in it, then I feel it would be mediocre at best. Now is not the time for another delay as we don't have another few years to spare here. Besides, what's the likelihood that Scott, Dean and Don will all be available at the same time again? It's like all the planets are aligned; now's the time.

Re: > Re: A Bold Leap Forward

Yeah, I don't think they should wait much longer, and Scott is freed up...On the QL CD soundtrack, he said he'd like to play Sam again...It better be fultime 'cause I'm holding him to his words

Well, there are a few ways to look at what Trey said. First, he could have just misspoke. Has he participated in any other interview since, where he was asked about this apparent break in continuity? If that was not the case, then there are certainly a myriad of possible scenarios we could spend weeks dreaming up to explain how that fits into his story. QL being a sci fi story, there's no end to the limits he could go to to explain anything he wanted in order to get it to fit his script. That being said, it doesn't necessarily mean we'll all like his explanation, but that's an altogether different discussion. <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/tongue.gif" />

Re: > Re: A Bold Leap Forward

I totally agree with QL nut, its now or never, Dean isn't getting younger and everyone won't stay free very long.
This is the time to make it,
Although thinking about it why hasn't Don done anything, now is the time and he's not doing anything, delay after delay, I wonder if he's going to do it at all.
I have suggested this to everyone, CALL belisarious productions and ask them. I called and they never got back to me, maybe one of you will have better luck, you can find their number in any search ingine, just search for beliarious productions. The number is listed.

Re: > Re: A Bold Leap Forward

I'm not worried. As evidenced from the interview, Trey Callaway is as big a Leaper as we are. I'm so glad that they chose someone who was already a fan of the show so that continuity can be preserved. I mean, at least we're actually getting Sammy Jo as the Leaper and not some new character or Sam Beckett turned into a woman.

As for Sammy Jo's age, Trey says in the interview that time travel can change things. I'm sure he's come up with a fun and inventive way of explaining Sammy Jo's age.

I for one can't wait for this, even if Scott only does a cameo. As long as Dean is co-starring, I'm good. As long as Bellisario is involved in any way, I'm good. And as long as Trey is a fan who wants to preserve continuity, I'm good.

Re: > Re: A Bold Leap Forward

Here's my theory: At the end of the series Sam was lost in time. During a retrieval process, they accidentally grabbed Sammy Jo and leaped her into the future (and not into someone else's life). Instead of risking losing her in time, Al and the rest at the project decided she should grow up from the moment she was pulled into the future. I haven't thought about all the details yet.:wavey

Re: > Re: A Bold Leap Forward

Because of similar DNA? WOuldn't it be ironic if Sammy Jo created the retrieval process that pulled herself forward from the past?

Re: > Re: A Bold Leap Forward

I'm with you 100% TinaAlsGirl, if DB and Dean are involved and Trey's a fan at heart that wants to see the show revived with strong ties to its past, then just an occasional, or even only one appearance by Scott to kick it off I could live with. The point remains though - if everyone is onboard, why is nothing happening? Does anyone have an e-mail, website, or actual address for Trey Callaway that we could ask him about what's happening?
