What do you want to see at the convention?

Hi leapers! Are you still out there?!

What do you want to see at the convention? What are your expectations? Give us your feedback! If you could come for $100, would you?

We know you love Quantum Leap, but would you fly across the country or oceans to meet the stars of the show? If not, then why?

Let's hear it!

I would come even if the only "guests" were fellow Al's Place members, people who I'll have known online nearly a DECADE by the time the convention rolls around. Having cast and crew from the show is a huge bonus.

Basically, I really would like to see some sort of meet-up at some point during the convention where all of the Al's Place members can meet each other.

I'm thrilled to see Mr. Dorleac on the list of guests; I think it'd be cool if we could get a couple of costumes from the show for display.

A costume party or some sort of fannish type thing would be fun.

Art contests, episode screenings, any of that sort of thing could be awesome.

I dunno... I've never been to a convention before. I'm just going on what I've read about other conventions.

Joy said everything I was about to say. Thanks, Joy!

I plan to drive across the country to come to this event, no matter who is there.

We definitely need to have a costume party or contest. Jean Pierre Dorleac could be the judge! (My costume is about half-finished as of now.)

I hope the guest stars will be available for panel discussions or Q&A sessions. Also, I'd love to see bloopers and outtakes or any backstage footage that's available. Love that stuff.

What if I told you that you might be able to bid on one of Al's glowing neon lapel pins donated by Jean Pierre Dorleac at our charity convention?

Now, THAT would be awesome... I'll have to make sure I budget for bidding as much as I can.

Joy

I've said it before, but I'll go on record again.

I'd LOVE to be able to attend,

but

it'd have to be over hubby's dead body, and much as I adore QL, that is just too high a price to pay.:hair

Hi Leaper1,

I did a little research and math. I'm famialiar with all of the promoters in England. I worked out some numbers. Below are there average ticket prices and current airfare for March 2008 (too early for 2009 prices):

STARFURY CONVENTIONS Admission: Approx. 78.50 = $153.30 USD (weekend)
WOLF EVENTS Admission: 90.00 = $175.75 (weekend)
AUTOGRAPHICA Admission: 35.00 = $68.35 (single day)

Airfare: HEATHROW to LAX = $705.00 = 361 POUNDS

Hotel: Approx: 153 pounds for 3 nites

If QL con changes their 3 day ticket price for the average joe to = $150, your total converted to pounds including air and hotel should be approx. 514.60 pounds not including food and autographs. This is an extreme estimate but "should" come close.

Go back and tell your husband what the "possibility" might be and we'll see you in LA.

I really appreciate all the effort you have gone to here.
Unfortunately, cash is not the main stumbling block.
As a number of my friends here can testify, my husband has 'issues'.
Believe me, there is more hope of hell freezing over than of him letting me attend.

Don't tempt me!

I just have to accept that 27yrs of marriage comes before my convention pleasure.

Marc's research prompted me to do some of my own. Using March 2008's airfare and estimating $3/gallon gas, it will cost me about the same to drive as it will to fly. Here's my pickle: Do I want to get there fast (~8 hours), or do I want to take a couple of days, and see things along the way? I'm leaning toward the second option, myself.

If I'm in a hurry, I can drive non-stop (except for gas and rest areas) and make it in about 32 hours. :D

Hello "Bama! Don't make me start cracking on your location. With that in mind, get your Southern hiney on a plane and enjoy more of us than the traffic jams, elderly drivers, ugly hitchikers and Big Mac jockeying during your drive. Makes sense and I "gradjeeated" from 3rd grade just to figure that out!

Driving to LAX: Too long. Flying to me: Priceless!!!

Haha! Welp, I caint git mah pickup wit dem gigantic tars to LA (not Lower Alabama) on uh plane, now kin I? I gotta have mah pickup, I need room for all mah beer!

LOL @ your seal-flipper-flapping-clapping smiley

That was hard to do. I don't speak with a Southern accent, so I really had to think about how some of those words would be spelled. I also don't own a pickup, nor do I drink beer.

Can I still come?

:cry

Well, I might smuggle a couple of bottles in for you, Marc. Or do you prefer cans? My neighbor has lots of cans. What are California's liquor transport laws?

Hey, go off topic as much as you like! I'm sure others have been popping in here and have been grinning at your little "debate" with Marc.

Leaper1, I understand your predicament. You can still help out with all of this -- hop around on the forum and chat people up. We're working on a plan to keep long-distance fans intimately involved with things. In the meantime, let's keep the QL excitement alive!

What do *I* want to see at the con? Many, many, happy shining faces! Some in costume, some in Official Con Gear (jeans and tees), photos ready to be autographed, questions in mind for our guests!

Anybody else? What's on your wish list?

DAMMIT!!! Story of my life.

McDuck: Just buried my WW2 Army Grandfather 2 Friday's ago. 1000 people at the funeral and with full military honors. 5 police car escort from church to veterans cemetary. My brother's a jarhead. I'm a big fan of the military but not the war.

My condolences on the passing of your grandfather and my prayers for your brother's safety. Is he deployed currently?

Chiming in...

I'm going to be there...that much I know. Wouldn't miss it for the world.

As to the question of driving to LA versus flying...there are merits for both. In 2006, my hubby and I finished Route 66...what a trip. Neat way to go and wouldn't trade that for the world (if you have time to enjoy it)...

On the other hand...flying can give you a chance to see a lot more in the LA area itself (this time I'm GOING to see the La Brea tarpits!!!!!)

As to southern...not everyone born below the Mason Dixon Line fits the last verse of the "perfect country/western song."

"WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN"

although, I have to admit, I've met a few of those guys that Al points out 'keeps those fishing shows on the air.'

Now to the question at hand...what do I want...

1. Time to really get to experience what it is about this great show that keeps us so connected to the storyline.

2. Costume party sounds like a blast.

3. Perhaps music vid contest to be run at the con open to all conceptual ideas. And Art contest might be nice too.

4. Time to hear and interact with the guest stars.

5. Time/Activities to get to know each other in real life (as opposed to our virtual meeting.

6. Chance to shop

and #7 (the lucky number...) OF COURSE...SAM AND AL! (well...Scott and Dean)

Is that too much to ask?:hurray:

I hope Helen won't mind me butting in here, but I think that looks good! :)

Where on earth did you find a flight to LA for £361? that's goood!

I'm really going to go to this con, I've been ill for years and well to see both my idols in the flesh is too good a chance not to pass up...this must be the reason i'm still alive! :)

Janine

PS Helen never give up hope! :D

PPS I'd just love to see everyone having a great time, to answer Brian's question.
