Yellow Rose In Texas

From Genesis:

Capt. Birdell: "There's a yellow rose in Texas, that I am going to see,
Nobody else could miss her, not half as much as me.
She cried so when I left her, it like to broke my heart,
And if I ever find her, we nevermore will part."

Weird Ernie: "Captain Birdell, if you don't clear this radio, the only yellow rose you'll be seeing is the one I'll shove up your afterburners. Is that clear? Over."

Lyrics

That's really interesting. This is a song I've loved since I was a child. As I recall (memory can be a problem from that long ago) Yellow Rose of Texas was on the flip side of the Happy Trail's Single (Roy Rogers...my childhood hero!) I can't find his verson of the song lyrics though.

ANYWAYS...this song was the reason I carried Yellow Roses in my Wedding Boquet (not because of the history of the song...but because I always loved the song.) It was composed of Yellow Roses, golf ball mums, and green ivy.

It's cool that the song used in QL was the 1955 version that really brought the song to popularity. That would have taken a bit of research to get that right. But again...that's why the show was so darn good!

Even as a Brit I grew up with this song, and loved it.

Interesting that it led you to your wedding bouquet, Helen. Good job you didn't cross reference with the Language of flowers though. I don't know if it is universal, or if America differs from England, but over here yellow roses mean either unrequited love or a jealous, possessive love!

I think it's the same...but believe that Yellow Roses just have a bad rap!

No unrequited love or a jealous, possessive love here...

Personally...I just loved the flowers.
