Thanks for this interesting discussion. I just wondered if there had been an update on the music listings?

I've got the Blu Ray and quickly scanned the most likely offenders (Good Morning, Peoria and MIA) and was delighted to find that their soundtracks are restored.

To my knowledge, all the music is there.

Well, I received the blu-ray set for Christmas. I will likely be watching through the entire series with my wife again gradually over the next couple of months, and I'll be happy to point out any glaring inconsistencies I notice as we go. Although based on what I've heard and read so far, it seems like everything is relatively intact for the most part (with some exceptions sometimes). We went through a complete series run maybe a year ago with my DVD sets, and we had to purchase "M.I.A." and both parts of "The Leap Home" on Amazon just because we refused to watch those episodes with the licensed music cut out.

That being said, right off the bat, the menu screens are definitely bare-bones. Also, I'm sure it's been mentioned elsewhere, but there is no subtitle feature! This, to me, is a head-scratcher. Nowadays, anytime my wife and I watch anything on Netflix or Amazon or whatever, we almost always use subtitles just to make sure we know what the actors are saying. (Hey, I'm now in my forties, my hearing is not what it used to be.) I've gotten so used to that feature, I can't fathom why it's not available here!

But here's the big thing I'll mention: I noticed that for Season 5, it listed "Lee Harvey Oswald" as Part 1 and Part 2. That immediately got me a bit concerned, so out of curiosity, I popped it in and checked it out. Sadly, it's split into 2 parts, instead of the full version as it was originally shown. I understand that when double-length episodes get repeated, they are usually split, but even the Universal DVD set kept this intact. What makes it even worse is that it is the "syndicut" version. The entire speech the Russian tells to Sam about the severe punishments that were inflicted upon him when he was younger by his father and how despite that, he still loved him; after which Oswald takes over and Sam begins to spill everything. That entire segment is cut short as it is in the syndicated versions. That is a huge disappointment to me. I really hope none of the other episodes are cut like that.

Was "Genesis" split? It wasn't in the new DVD set, but I haven't gotten to "LHO" yet.

No, the pilot is intact, thankfully (even though it's printed on the disc as "Genesis Part 1 & 2"). Even the beginning is the same, it doesn't actually use the "Genesis" title (which was only added in reruns). The only minor thing I noticed was a slightly different edit right after Sam leaps into the baseball player. I think in the original DVD, it shows Sam looking toward the crowd and then immediately cuts to the ball-boy approaching him to grab the ball he caught. In the blu-ray, there's an additional pan shot of Sam looking around, a "commercial-break" fade-out, and then Sam looking toward the crowd (I think this was how the syndicated version is edited). It's such a minor detail, though, even for someone like me, so it's not really a big deal because nothing is cut out.

I got suspicious with LHO because both parts were printed on the blu-ray disc separately as "Lee Harvey Oswald Part 1" and "Lee Harvey Oswald Part 2," which is why I checked it. Anyway, so far we've gone through Season 1 and the first episode of Season 2. Everything looks good so far. I have to agree that most of the episodes look better than I've ever seen them, so I have no other complaints. The last episode of Season 1 still leaps in to "What Price Gloria" even though the next episode chronologically is "Honeymoon Express," but as I commented over a decade ago (holy crap, has it been that long?), it makes sense to me to keep that intact because the saga sell still hadn't been fleshed out completely until Season 2. Plus, the leaping visual-effects for Season 1 look very different compared to later seasons. In syndication, it looks very jarring when you see Sam leap out at the end of "Play It Again, Seymour" and then the leap-in to "Honeymoon Express" is such an abrupt visual change, if that makes any sense. As for the leap-endings into repeat episodes, I haven't gotten that far yet. I assume they'll probably still be "out-of-sequence" as they were on the original DVD sets.

Just picked up the UK Blu-Ray Complete Series and had a quick scan. However did notice that "Lee Harvey" was in the movie version not the 2 part that was on the US Blu-Ray set? Has anyone else noticed any differences between the UK and the US?
