Why did I have to leap into you? Why couldn't I have just leaped back into myself?" "Is that supposed to be an insult, Dr. Beckett?" "No, it's just that...it doesn't make sense! Not only does it take me forever to return but now when I do I'm not even myself!!" "Well, you know what they say...God works in mysterious ways." "Yeah, well God or whatever's leaping me around sure has one sick sense of humor." Verbena rushed into the Control Room, followed by Donna, Sammie Jo, and another woman who looked very familiar to Sam. "Sam!" cried Donna, "You're back!" "Sort of, dear. I actually lept into Gooshie." "So what! You're still back. That's all that matters to me." "Me too!" added Sammie Jo. Sam looked at her curiously. He never remembered...his daughter! "Sammie Jo?" He walked over and hugged her, and then he went over to his wife. Yes, he was back, but would she really want him if he actually was Gooshie? He completely forgot that Verbena needed to talk to him about something. "Dr. Beckett," she said, "We need your opinion on something." Sam looked up and asked, "What is it?" "It's me Sam," the other familiar woman said. Sam looked over in her direction and then his eyes widened. "Alia? What are you doing here?" "We haven't been able to figure that out," answered Verbena, "she just appeared in the Acceleration Chamber a few days ago. She says she's been putting right what she once put wrong. Apparently she was involved in..." "...an evil Project Quantum Leap," interrupted Sam, "we've crossed paths before. But seriously Alia, have you really fixed all those events you changed?" A smile came to his face. "I'm glad." "Well, all except for one leap, the last one before I arrived here. I didn't recognize the situation from before, and I had no hologram to help me. I was this young girl, I don't remember her name, but she was about to get married. To this creep named Peter. Anyway, I figured that I was there to see that she didn't marry him, so I broke off the engagement. Then I lept." "Did you say his name was Peter?" asked Donna. "Yes, I think so. Why, did you know him?" "You lept into me! Oh God, Sam, she lept into me! I always wondered about that. One day I was over at Peter's apartment and then I seemed to just blank out. When I came to I was on the telephone and my mom was asking me why I called off the engagement. It was the strangest thing. Sam, she's the reason we got married! It really is God who's leaping you around!" "I'm glad I was able to help, considering all of the trouble I made." said Alia, "And the project no longer exists, because Zoey is dead. She started this whole thing, with the help of a Dr. Soakes, who found your handlink and those tapes from 1966. She was a lawyer, and I was one of her clients. I owed her a lot of money, but she offered to erase the debt if I'd do one little thing for her. I feel so ashamed. I never wanted to hurt anybody." "I know," Sam said calmly, "but what's important is that you fixed things again. It's his way of forgiving you. And...wait, that's it." "What's it Sam?" asked Al cautiously, "I don't like the sound of this." "How I can get back!! I'll just leap again." "That's potentially dangerous, Dr. Beckett." warned Ziggy, "the results could be catastrophic. We could lose you forever." "I'll be alright Ziggy," Sam said as he walked over to the accelerator chamber, "Just leap me into Gooshie at the current time!" "I don't know about this Sam!" Al shouted, but it was to late. Ziggy activated the Accelerator and Sam disappeared. Gooshie returned to his body and the Control Room was filled with silence. "Where did he go?" asked Alia. Al felt his heart sink. It was the only time Sam might get to return home, but he was gone again. He walked over to the Waiting Room to see if Sam had leaped into anybody. What he saw made the hair on his body stand straight up.
