A GREAT BIG HI-DE-HO TO ALL LEAPERS!!!

I want to begin this by saying that I’m sorry for missing my posting day on Sunday. Several things have happened at work, and work has kept me busy since then. I finally got a chance to sit down and do anything just tonight. My apologies, Brian…

The problem that has kept me a bit busy this past couple of days deals with a person that I have been working with daily. Let’s call him: David. David and I get together every day to work on skills that will help him later on in life.

To put it in plain terms… David is a rather intelligent person when you sit down and shoot the bull with. But when it comes to bucking down and learning the skills that he needs… he doesn’t want to put forth the effort to get the job done. He’s missed meetings, and now… I found out in a recent meeting that he will no longer be with the facility. They are moving him to another home for alternate placement because of disciplinary problems that he’s been having in the home.

This bothers me greatly. David is a good kid. Over-zealous at times but all in all, all David has ever shown me… is respect and his heart. Everyday, he’d come in and give me a hug… or if not a hug… at least a good ribbing.

And I guess seeing him leave… knowing that he’s not under my care any longer, means that life goes on…

Hmmm… Life goes on…. Life goes on…

Okay… I know that you’re thinking to yourself… how does this woman’s life in any way relate to Quantum Leap? Well, I can understand your question…and here’s your answer.

Working in an MHMR Facility gives a person a chance to perceive life a bit differently. You find out that life continues … no matter the ups and downs… and you find out that we are all human. Flesh and bone … with emotions that can go from one extreme to the other in a heartbeat, just from what other people can say… or do.

Donald Bellasario went out on a limb and touched topics that other shows either weren’t ready to handle… or would not handle. One episode that touches my heartstrings every time I see it is: "Jimmy."

The whole message of the show was pure and simple:

Even though we are all different, we are all human beings… and everyone deserves to work and earn a living… everyone deserves to live their life… no matter what kind of handicap we have… no matter how different we may be… because we are human beings with tender hearts.

I just hope that "David" remembers to keep it real… and to be the person that I know that he can be. I also hope that other people can tolerate him… and let him show them what a special person he is.

You know… as I re-read over this… checking for errors and the what not… I wonder what would happen if everyone lived by this message. What would happen? How would we as a society be? Would we be better? Worse? Or just where we are right now?

I would like to think that the world would be a better place… a place where everyone could get along… a place where everyone was happy… a place that people know each other and care…

What do you think?
