As 16 year old Ryan Dutcher, Sam feels hobbled by the family situation surrounding him. Unable to cope with the emotional whirlwind dogging his every thought, he slowly loses contact with Al and the Project. How can he save himself as well as Ryan's family and schoolmates from certain destruction without an Observer to guide him?

As airman Eric Stubbs, Sam finds he's in the Navy to help a shipmate marry a stateside girlfriend. Sam finds himself standing in for the groom; saving the bride's life, and having to convince both that this marriage should happen.

Sam leaps into Jeff Walker, a 29-year old Buddhist karate instructor at Chuck Norris' Karate Studio in 1970. He meets one of Jeff's students, 10 year old Benjamin Steussy, and senses that the boy is losing confidence in himself, his church and his family. Al and Ziggy report a dire future for the boy if Sam doesn't restore his faith in something soon. When a shocked Sam figures out why the boy's faith is wavering, he employs his friend and Observer to help him in a memorable ruse.

From radio disc jockey, to a priest, to a boxer, to a chimpanzee, and now a into a body suit -- a mascot -- a Hippo. 

As Novatalia Chamberlain, Sam has a hard time trying to figure out exactly why he's there. An encounter with a Ouija board doesn't help Sam at all, but convinces Al that something hinky is going on. Will they figure out what Sam's there to do in time?

Sam leaps into Janeen Perry, a psychiatric nurse in a New York county mental hospital. He discovers that he's there to save the life of Janeen's neighbor, Emma, from an apartment fire. 

As a major snowstorm moves towards Sam, Dr. Beeks has begun to worry about Al’s ability to function under difficult personal circumstances. Both the approaching storm and Al's situation put the Project and Emma at risk.

A major snowstorm frustrates Sam in his effort to reach Emma. While en-route, he uncovers Trudy Calavicci, Al's sister, trapped in a crashed ambulance. Now, he has two women to save, and time is running out. Meanwhile, Al has been relieved from his Observer position and Senator Weitzman's aide has recommended the Project be shut down. Will Sam be able to save the women in 1953 and the Project in 2000 at the same time?
