FANDOM ENTANGLEMENT is back for the eighth in our series of retro reviews for SLIDERS. This time, we’re taking a look at the penultimate episode of Season 1, Episode 8, “The King Is Back”…
FANDOM ENTANGLEMENT: SLIDERS Episode 1x08 — "The King Is Back"
[Original airdate: 05/10/95]
It looks like the King is back when Rembrandt is mistaken for a long-deceased rock legend, but an old enemy would like to see the Crying Man disappear again — permanently.
This episode was written by Tracy Tormé and directed by Vern Gillum.
Mike Bloxam (MikeKraken) & I (Damon Sugameli) are joined by Special Guest Perry Bruns. He has worked as an actor for The Murder Mystery Company (recently featured on ABC’s Shark Tank) and Famous For A Day. In addition, he has provided voiceover acting for several projects from Westerfield Studios as well as the audiobook narration for LUCI: Rhoades to Hell by Anna Rose. Perry can also be seen in various improv workshops from Tampa Bay Community Network (TBCN) and privately ticketed events at Maggiano’s Little Italy throughout Florida in the Tampa, Boca Raton, Jacksonville and Orlando areas.
Join us as we dive deep into this fun exploration of mistaken identities across the multiverse: Rembrandt is Rembrandt, Quinn is Jim Morrison, and Arturo is…Luciano Pavarotti? Perry also shares a wealth of background information on the long and illustrious career of actor Chuck McCann along with some little-known information about Gallagher and his brother Gallagher Too (both of whom look much more identical than the Derricks twins do, if we’re being honest)! All this and a special appearance by The Del Rubio Sisters, who apparently made the rounds across numerous sitcoms throughout the 90s! This was a delightful and fun episode that seamlessly mixed some of the urban legends surrounding Elvis’s death with a touch of Misery. We had a blast talking about it, and Perry had us laughing the entire time. Hope you enjoy our analysis and review! It’s our longest one to date!
Next up will be the Season 1 Finale, “Luck of the Draw,” with Special Guest and friend of the pod, Dennis Frymire. After that, we will take a brief hiatus until the beginning of January.
