The first season set showed promise with a 20 minute documentary, easter eggs and episode introduction and then everything seemed to get hacked and slashed after that.

It's one thing to have music alteration, but each season should have continued the KISS WITH HISTORY documentaries and episode introductions.

I was especially disappointed with the final season on DVD. There was so much that could have been covered in a documentary. I mean, not even the Sci-Fi Channel's 2000 Sciography was included in the damn thing.

It would have been interesting to have commentary on episodes too. Biggest disappointment was the alternate ending to Mirror Image not being included.

Who thought the blueprints to Project Quantum Leap would be interesting??? Big flippin' deal???

I don't have Quantum Leap on DVD anymore. All though the Region 2 Ultimate Quantum Leap Collection does look interesting.:hmm

They made an effort with the first season DVD, but the simple fact is it didn't sell very well.

So with that in mind you have to cut costs and put out a cheaper product with they did with the rest.

Universal has followed this method with many of their shows. Generally, the most effort will go into the first seasons of their shows, including incorporating all original music, having the best film transfers, having special features, episode synopses, etc. Then they start getting cheap and trying to cut costs no matter how well the DVDs sell. Somewhere along the line, they try to make a half-hearted effort to include some type of bonus feature (generally an episode of the following season or some general documentary). Finally by the final season release, they sometimes pay for all the original music and add different special features, and sometimes not. But the average track record is to include bonus features in only the first and last seasons of any given show. All original music being included in the final seasons depends on the show.

In the case of Quantum Leap's final season, all of a sudden Universal was able to afford Ray Charles' "Georgia On My Mind" and all other original music. They tried to make it appear as if they listened to the fans' complaints, but I suspect in actuality that it was just a case of there happening to not be not as much music in Season 5 as there was in other seasons. That probably helped Universal not go over their music budget, and so I suspect they had the money left over to pay for "Georgia On My Mind." But with other shows of theirs, they not only stop paying for a lot of original music in later season releases, but they also have traditionally gotten lazy by leaving smaller details out, like episode synopses, language subtitles, and other things of that nature.

Also, if Universal ever makes future announcements that season releases of some shows will be released only a few months apart, that's also cause for alarm because it's an indicator that they're rushing through the process of getting the DVD sets out. The picture transfers may then not be as sharp as previous seasons, and the time and effort it would take to type up proper episode synopses could get compromised for a speedy release.

I agree that there should have been more of the Kiss With History introductions with Scott and Dean. I would have loved to hear what they have to say for certain episodes after season one.

I personally could not stand the introductions, you should of been able to turn them off, it prolonged the episodess .... but thats just me. As an owner of over 2000 dvds Im ready for the movie and no crap in the begining

You can, go to Bonus Features and it will have:
Kiss With History Intro
On Off

or something like that I don't remember and I have never done it myself as I love them.

I have to agree, i like having the intro and wished they had done it on all the seasons.
And im gutted about the music too, especially in temptation eyes, not having the foreigner song in it ruins it for me.:cry

And i dont know if its me but in the fifth season dvds i cant find this bouns blueprint thingy, it says it on the box but i cant see it on my dvds, (it could just be me being stupid)

I was a bit disappointed that after the series 1 DVD extras there wernt anymore on the other box sets. They should have come to Al’s Place and raided the video library if they were short on footage. I was hoping for some outtakes, making of and maybe some interviews with the cast and Bellisario. Surely they should have had the alternate ending on the series 5 DVD.
Were there any extras with the ‘Ultimate collection?

Oh I know and that music they replaced it with is wanna-be suck music. Thats what my BFF and I call it hehe. I love that song, I am so glad I have my bootleg version so I don't have to bare the replacement music. :hurray:

Many episodes were not aired locally, so the dvd's are utterly brilliant for me for that - but the original music would've been such a bonus... And fwiw I liked the intro's too.

They weren't there on our R2 sets. I just got the R1 DVD off Amazon.co.uk from an import company (along with the other R1 DVDs) after I got the R2 DVDs and Ultimate Collection.

This may not sound very die-hard-fanish, but I figure that if they just play the episodes well, they are worth getting. I rarely watch the bonus features that are placed in a DVD. Luckily, for now, I can just watch them in order on TV. Bonus features are nice, but it is better to relive the episodes. Just my opinion, though.

Good evening everyone. The DVD are not made well cause they freeze too much in many episodes. It get me upset. I am watching a scene and all of a sudden it freezes. what Can I do?
I love the show but can't stand the freezing up.

There are only two problems that I could think would be the problem. #1: Are there any scratches or gashes on the bottom of the disks? #2: Are these the manufactured copies, or did you get reproduced copies?

If you purchased the recently, I'd take them back to where you bought them from. I don't think this is a problem with ever set made. The only time I had any problem was with my old DVD player - and it was the player, not the DVD.
