Rodette-Vision

Tiz the season to be jolly… Fa la la la la la la la la…

Jingle Bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way…

Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh…

Silent Night, Holy Night…

Should old acquaintance be forgot? …

Yes, the music surrounds us during the holiday season filling our days with merriment as we walk through the stores finding the perfect present for our loved ones for Christmas.

But what it really reminds me of is a very important story that was read just this morning at Church. I know that this isn’t the place to practice my religion … but it’s something that is a part of me… and I feel that it must be shared with you; my fellow leapers. For those of you who are not Christians… I do apologize…

The following are scriptures that we went over today not only in church but also in Sunday school. We are so wrapped up in getting the gifts … that we forget the main one that was given to us over 2000 years ago…

NIV: Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

NIV: Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

NIV: Luke 2: 1 – 20

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angels said to them, "Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the down of David, a Savor has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manager. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

It’s a very simple story… one that has been told over and over again Christmas after Christmas. Even as I re-read it every year, I find that it’s something that should be remembered more than just once a year.

True, I didn’t tie anything of Quantum Leap into this passage from the Bible. I didn’t think that I really needed to. If you glance through all the episodes of Quantum Leap, you’ll see the underlying wonderful qualities that are written in the Bible.

I’ll leave with this poem…

The Gift Of God’s Love

All over the world at this season,

Expectant hand reach to receive

Gifts that are lavishly fashioned,

The finest that man can conceive…

For, purchased and given at Christmas

Are luxuries and given at Christmas

Are luxuries we long to possess,

Given as favors and tokens

To try in some small ways to express

That strange, indefinable feeling

Which is part of this glad time of year

When streets are crowded with shoppers

And the air resounds with good cheer…

But back of each tinsel-tied package

Exchanged at this fit-giving season,

Unrecognized often by many,

Lies a deeper, more meaningful reason…

For, born in a manger at Christmas

As a gift from the Father above,

An infant whose name was called Jesus

Brought mankind the gift of God’s Love…

And the gifts that we give have no purpose

Unless God is part of the giving,

And unless we make Christmas a pattern

To be followed in everyday living.

For those thinking that I was going to do something on the "Scrooged" episode… I was on the verge of doing it… but… I thought that this was more appropriate.
